uperb Antique Chinese Imari plate, Very early18th century, made in the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1661 -1722) dating to between 1700 and 1720. The plate is decorated  a wonderful Imari pallet of iron red and cobalt blue with gold gilt highlights.

The decoration shows a stylised garden terrace, with an abundant display of Chrysanthemum and Peony flowers, buds and leaves.

The underglaze cobalt blue decoration is of an especially good colour.

The rear of the dish is a classic Kangxi form and shows traces of the iron red oxide bleed at the border of the glazed and unglazed foot-rim so typical of Chinese porcelain production of this period.

In a brief period, mainly during the reigns of the Emperors Kangxi and Yongzheng (between1661 and 1734), China competed with Japan for European export porcelain market demand for Imari porcelain. Chinese potters made their own but in many ways very similar versions of Imari-style porcelains, which were popular among European consumers. This plate is a very good example of these wares.
