Magnificent example of an early, John Rose period, COALPORT porcelain "UNION PATTERN" botanical dishes of exceptional quality in excellent condition. Circa 1825.

The dishes bear a remarkable resemblance to the work of the most famous British botanical painter of the period - William Billingsley. The famous decorator worked at Derby, then founded the Nantgarw (Swansea) factory, was also at Worcester before joining in 1820, Coalport.
William Billingsley worked at Coalport until his death in 1828 so the dates do align. I have a pair of Scent Bottle Tulip vases made at the Nantgarw factory and known to be by William Billingsley. The style of the flower painting of the primroses is almost identical  The quality of the flower painting is exemplary, there are rain drops on the leaves of the flowers of a standard almost never seen in porcelain painting and for sure if not Billingsley then the work one of the most famous Coalport Botanical artists.

The dishes are on a magnificent Cobalt blue ground with superb gilt decoration which is almost in a condition as it would have been made. There are almost no loses to the gilt whatsoever.
This is a rare opportunity to own one of the finest examples of Coalport artistry at its very best. Being of a decent size at 25cm (10inches) they are also stunning on display

Each dish has an incised 9 but no other markings.
