"Grand Tour" Gouache Painting "Lago Como" Italy - Circa 1800. SUPERB 60cm W
£975.00
Absolutely Exquisite Classical "Grand Tour" Panoramic painting of Lake Como and the town of Bellagio, Italy. Done somewhere around the late 18th and early 19th Century
This is a very Classical piece made for the travelling wealthy Northern Europeans making the famous "Grand Tour of Italian Culture and Art" which was so fashionable at this time.
The Panorama is done in Gouache paint. It is most probably that this is a direct hand painted view, though also hand coloured mezzotint were sold as well. I believe looking very closely at the detail that this is a direct painting. Both existed at the time and the value does not vary that much between the two
The picture is of impressive size and is framed in a beautiful gilded frame
