Truly outstanding early Japanese Arita large lidded Imari patterned vase circa 1700, of quality and in very good condition. Probably made for the export market, the vase is of unusual shape with a strong bulb shape, making it quite rare. A quality piece and extremely impressive at 42cm tall, including the early hardwood antique stand and carved antique hardwood lid. The vase is decorated with the classical Arita palette of this period, featuring four distinct panels of flowers and vases in iron red oxide, gold gilding, and cobalt blue of wonderful depth of color. It also features the classic Imari palette with Peonies and other flowers, both overglaze enamel and gold gilded. Japanese export porcelain vases were avidly sought by aristocratic and royal patrons to decorate their stately homes and palaces in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. This is a wonderful example of a more than 300-year-old vase in very good condition. An opportunity to own a rare example of the highest quality of Early Japanese Arita ware.
