£345.00

Beautiful Japanese Edo period Arita charger plate, circa 1730-60. The dish is 29.5cm (12 inches) in diameter, featuring an outstanding underglaze Cobalt blue of glorious color. The design is classical 18th century Japanese, showcasing a stylized form of a fisherman's home and the sprayed cobalt pooling decoration. The dish has spur marks from the kiln firing and is unusually plain at the back, indicating an earlier period. This is a rare example of the highest quality Early Japanese Porcelain, similar to pieces in the Museum of the Shibata Collection of Early Edo Porcelain in Japan. A remarkable piece for serious collectors of Edo period Japanese ceramics.
