Rare Japanese Edo Period Arita charger plate Circa 1680. The dish is 29cm (almost 12 inches) in diameter, featuring outstanding Artwork in underglaze Cobalt blue. The design is classical 17th century Japanese, simple yet beautiful. The lobed shape follows similar designs of the Chinese Kangxi kilns of the 17th Century. The dish bears the Imperial marks of the Chinese Emperor Chenghua (1465-1487), used as a statement of quality and homage to this earlier period. This is a rare example of the highest quality Early Japanese Porcelain, similar to pieces in the Museum of the Shibata Collection of Early Edo Porcelain in Japan. Dimensions: Diameter 29cm (11.5"). A remarkable piece for serious collectors of Edo period Japanese Ceramics.
