Rare and superb quality early Japanese Edo period early 18th Century Samurai Gunpai.  The War fan dates from around 1740..

Superb macki-e lacquer work. 

Broad paddle and handle in beautiful black lacquered wood with a positive and negative symbol in pure gold lacquer (Lacquer mixed with pure gold powder). The handle is capped with a silvered copper handle with elaborate traced decoration of trailing vines and the silk cord attachment.

This is a very rare opportunity for a serious Lacquer collectors to own an historic piece of Japanese Military history.
