Magnificent, rare, extremely large Late Edo Arita ceramic vase on stand, with additional lacquered decoration in red , black and gold. The lacquer decoration was added as an extra level of luxury and quality by the kilns at this period. This vase is beautifully crafted with the base layer decorated in underglaze Cobalt blue featuring Kingfisher birds and various stylized flowers. The lacquer layer was then added and gilded and painted with birds , fruit, flowers and panels showing Mount Fuji and an immense dragon of outstanding quality.
