Exceptional pair of Walnut and Gilt chairs with original needlework covers. Made very much after the work of Giles Grendley (1693 - 1780)  and the furniture he made in the reign of George II around 1735. Giles Grendley was one of the most famous English cabinet makers, most famous during the early to mid 18th Century. His workshop was at Aylesbury House in Clerkenwell, London set up in 1726 and rapidly expanded to be one of the major cabinet makers of his period. Major works from this cabinet maker can be found in Stourhead, Longford Castle in Wiltshire and the famous Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire but he supplied houses and palaces all across Europe.

Though absolutely faithful to the style of furniture from the 1730's I date these chairs to the period of early Georgian furniture revival furniture in the 19th Century. They have beautiful tapestry needlework seat covers original to the chairs.

I have also a wonderful mahogany and gilt commode dating to the same period and in the same style which can be seen in one of the images. This will be listed shortly and compliments the chairs perfectly.

These items would add a dramatic focal point to any period decoration scheme.
